1. POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE: THURSDAY 24th JUNE

An opportunity for postgraduates to share their research, and to receive feedback on it, in a friendly and supportive environment. The event is followed by the Aston Corpus Symposium the next day, enabling postgraduates to stay on and attend presentations by more established corpus researchers.

*CALL FOR PAPERS* -- ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday 19th APRIL

· Papers can be submitted on any corpus related topic

· Abstracts (maximum length 300 words) plus bibliographical references to be sent to d.a.forman@aston.ac.uk by Monday 19th April

· Accepted file formats are .doc and .pdf

· Author’s name, affiliation, and contact details to be provided in a separate attachment

· Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by Monday 10th May

· Presentation length: 20 minutes

· Presenters will also be invited to submit a 3,000-word paper to be published in the online Conference Proceedings

2. SYMPOSIUM: FRIDAY 25th JUNE

Brings together experts in various corpus-related fields. The programme will consist of presentations by distinguished speakers.

· Mike Scott (Aston University; Reader in Corpus Linguistics; author of WordSmith Tools)

· Ramesh Krishnamurthy (Aston University; Director of ACORN - Aston Corpus Network)

· Philip King (Aston University; Visiting Academic Fellow)

3. SUMMER SCHOOL 1 – BEGINNERS: MONDAY 2nd – FRIDAY 6th AUGUST **NEW**

Leading practitioners in the field will introduce participants to a range of topics. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.

· Introduction to Corpus Linguistics (history, theory, methodology)

· Corpus Design and Creation (data sources, copyright, formats)

· Types of Corpora (written/spoken, general/specialist, static/dynamic, synchronic/diachronic)

· Corpus Software (especially WordSmith Tools)

· Corpus Analysis

· Applications of Corpus Linguistics (Language Learning and Teaching, Lexicography, Translation, Forensic Linguistics)


4. SUMMER SCHOOL 2 - ADVANCED MONDAY 9th – FRIDAY 13th AUGUST **NEW**

A chance for those who attended the Aston Corpus Summer School 2009, or the SUMMER SCHOOL 1 – BEGINNERS 2010 in the previous week, or others who already have some experience in the field of Corpus Linguistics to extend their knowledge, broaden their range, and gain hands-on experience of tools and techniques that they may not be familiar with.

All the sessions will be led by tutors who are leading experts in their specialist fields. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.

Thank you for the complete information. Is this still open for this year 2011? Does the requirements are the same even if I am a foreigner?
