Who knows why a for-PP is felicitous in (102) but an in-PP is only felicitous in negation?

1) He has worked for six months.
2) He hasn't worked for six months.
3) He hasn't worked in six months.
4) *He has worked in six months.

Has anyone tried the Aspect (Verb Semantics) Analyzer in ACWT
to tackle this problem?
