In this paper there are two terms: implicit annotation and explicit annotation. What do they mean?

We might say that explicit annotation is the type of annotation the term normally refers to, i.e. where the annotation is actually recorded in the corpus. Implicit annotation refers to a corpus analyst classifying concordances in mind, without recording the classification in the corpus per se.
