AILA 2008 Newsletter 2007-02 (Second Call for Papers – Final Deadline extension to April 15, 2007 / Solidarity Fund)
Dear Colleagues,
This is the third AILA 2008 e-Newsletter presenting information and updates on preparations for the 15. World Congress of Applied Linguistics (August, 24.-29.2008 in Essen, Germany).
In this issue we would like to inform you about the Second Call for Papers and final extension of the deadline for the Call for Papers – now set to April 15, 2007 in response to multiple requests from colleagues for more time to submit abstracts. In addition, we would like to give you some general information as to the
AILA Solidarity Awards as well as additional financial support for colleagues from less affluent regions and transforming countries to be made available by the DAAD – the German Academic Exchange Service.
We would like to apologise for cross-postings.
Second Call for Papers – AILA 2008 – Final Deadline extension
AILA 2008 is extending the deadline for its call for papers, symposia and poster presentations to April 15, 2007. This extension is in response to multiple requests from colleagues for more time to submit abstracts.
The conference theme of AILA 2008 is "Multilingualism: challenges and opportunities" and detailed information relating to the CALL FOR PAPERS is available on the conference website at www.aila2008.org both in English and in German. AILA 2008 invites proposals for presentations that are related to policy, research, and theory in any area of applied linguistics. A detailed list of the proposed thematic strands is published on the conference website.
However, as we intend to complete the screening procedures by the end of July 2007, despite the extended deadline we would still like to invite colleagues to submit their proposals as early as possible. We are planning to inform successful proposals before the summer break, so that those colleagues planning to apply for financial assistance to their local agencies have enough time to prepare their applications. As stated on the AILA 2008 website - exact details as to conference fees and other costs will be posted after the next planning meeting of the AILA 2008 organising committee in mid-March.
For further information on the Call for Papers and the online submission of proposals please visit our website at http://www.aila2008.org/call-for-papers.html
AILA Solidarity Awards
Based on the resources of a Solidarity Fund made possible by generous donations of individuals, businesses, and organizations, AILA offers a limited number of Solidarity Awards to scholars in Applied Linguistics who might be unable to participate in the World Congress without financial support. For application procedure details, see the AILA Website www.aila.info/about/awards.htm
DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service supports AILA 2008.

The AILA 2008 team greatly appreciates this and expresses its gratitude to the German Academic Exchange Service – DAAD. Exact details as to the amount of awards available, eligibility and application procedures will be posted on the AILA as well as AILA 2008 websites and via our newsletter after the meeting of the AILA executive in May 2007.
