1999, Yang Dafu adopted CLEC to conduct his research for writing his doctoral dissertation. In the research, he analyzed briefly all types of errors that are tagged in CLEC. He found that L1- transfer was a major factor behind the errors.
Li Jingquan and Cai Jinting (2001) studied the misuse of the English articles. The sub-corpus of “ Non- major college students” in CLEC was used. The authors found that the misuse of articles by Chinese learners mainly followed three patterns: omission of articles, oversuppliance of articles and confusion of articles. It was also found that the former appeared far more than the latter two patterns. The authors suggested that linguistic transfer, overgeneralization of article usage rules, and incomplete mastery of the English articles might have caused this complex phenomenon.
In 2002, Su Hongxia analyzed errors of verbs in the interlanguage of Chinese learners of English based on CLEC. The error analysis focused on three high frequency verbs: buy, wait and learn. The sources of errors are also explained.
