我是语言学专业的学生,毕业论文是关于各语类的统计的。现在遇到两个问题,在此咨询,大家多多指教啊~~~~~

1. 我的genre分类基本是按照suzanne eggins(1994)的分类方法,具体如下:

Literary genres Short-stories
Novels
Fables
Poems
Dramas
Popular written genres Ads
Instructions
News and reports
Recipes
Educational genres Lectures
Text-book writing
Everyday genres Buying and selling things
Gossiping
Exchanging opinions
Chatting

不知这样的分类方法是否可行?

2. 哪里有比较充足的英文语料?尤其是针对everyday genres,要找到比较典型的、地道的语料ms不大容易 :(

急盼指点!多谢多谢!

Text classifications may vary. But I think you might be interested in FLOB/Frown etc, the corpora of the Brown family, which cover 15 written genres. You can also use the BNC and the BNC Indexer to define your own subcorpora which meet the requirements of your genre classifications.

Thank you soooooooooo much!
Now I'm hesitant to decide the classification of written genres, which hinders me from starting writing the paper.
Could you please introduce any accesses to FLOB/Frown? I've spent some time seeking applicable online corpus, but found it so difficult.

Thank you,xiaoz.
I've searched for FLOB/Frown and BNC on line, and found their website. However, all the websites seem to provide search engine for merely words/phrases. Is it possible for me to get full texts of each categories in these corpus? My study is not simply based on the frequency of words/phrases or some lexical issues.

My FLOB/Frown online search tool allows you to search in specific genres and the report also shows distribution across genres. Mark Davies's VIEW also allows you to search in specific genres in the BNC.

Don't know whether you've already got this, but David Lee's Genre Classification Scheme is a good piece.

You may also have a look at his classification running with BNCweb tool, see more at http://homepage.mac.com/bncweb/manual/bncwebman-genre.htm

You are highly recommended to read Guy Aston's critical review, published in Language Learning & Technology, September 2001, Vol.5, Num.3, pp. 73-76:

It's so amasing!!!

Millions of thanks to xiaoz & laohong! Your suggestion and recommendation are really helpful and stimulating, esp. the two PDF files on genre classification!

I'm grateful for your kind help, and meanwhile proud of myself for having found this fabulous website!
