This is the result of CLAWS POS tagging.

Do you accept "got" as the past participle of a lexical verb (VVN) or a modal verb (VMK)?

Another interesting thing is that CLAWS can break a word into two and annotate them separately.
e.g.
I am gonna go. was tagged as I_PPIS1 am_VBM gon_VVGK na_TO go_VVI ._.

I agree with CLAWS tagging as "GOT" can never function as a modal verb or modal auxiliary. The cluster "have got to" in present tense form is generally considered to be a semi-auxiliary verb as by Quirk and Zhang ZB. GOT when treated alone can reasanably be seen as a past tense form or , in this case, participle of GET.

have got to ~= have to; got shoud ot be a VM

gonna/wanna = going to/want to; there are two words in one orthographic word form.

have got to ~= have to; got shoud ot be a VM

gonna/wanna = going to/want to; there are two words in one orthographic word form.[/QUOT]

"have got to" could marginally be a VM but "got" alone could not. Furthermore, there is a significant difference btw "have to" and "have got to" in that the latter in most cases can only be used in present tense form.
