Use of language corpora in second language learning
Dash, Niladri Sekhar (2003) "Use of Language Corpora in Second Language Learning". South Asian Language Review. Vol. 13. pp. 1-26.
Abstract. In this article, we argue for teaching English as a
second language to Indians e with close reference to
English language corpora. The proposed method is assisted
by computer and based on information obtained from the
language corpora developed with text sample of various
types used by the native people in their every day discourse
of life. This empirical method for second language
education has been proved successful in various parts of the
world where English is used either as a second language or
as a ‘lingua franca’. There is no reason to be sceptical about
its success in Indian context if the method is used with
careful manipulation of the techniques and the resources
with further empowerment with the advices of the experts
of the field.
