BNC XML now available

As existing BNC licensees will know, we are now taking orders for the
new XML edition of the British National Corpus. This is a major revision
of the existing BNC World Edition, which corrects a large number of
known errors in the tagging, duplicated and miscategorized texts, etc.
The whole corpus is now encoded in XML, which we hope will make it much easier to process, and we have taken the opportunity of enriching the linguistic annotation to include lemmata and a simplified set of POS
tags, alongside the original Claws C5 markup. The distribution also
includes a completely revised and enhanced manual, together with
pre-built indexes for use with the latest release of XAIRA (1.23).

Pricing
The prices below cover the licence itself, our distribution costs, and the media on which the corpus is delivered. The BNC XML Edition is supplied complete and ready to install as a set of two DVD-ROMs. These include full documentation, the corpus itself, a set of compiled Xaira indexes for use on any platform, and a new version of the Xaira searching software customized for use with the BNC.

Prices quoted here include delivery by standard airmail and packing, but exclude VAT and bank charges, where applicable. (VAT at 17.5% where applicable is payable on orders within Europe, bank charges apply to orders paid in USD or Euros). Please note that we offer a discount for 'earlybird' orders received before 1 June 2007, and that special prices apply to BNC licence holders with a recent licence (after 1 June 2006).

You can purchase the corpus with a personal licence or with an institutional licence. The personal licence version is also available in packs of ten.

The BNC Baby sampler we produced last year was an experimental step in the direction of producing BNC-XML. We are now ready to make the big leap forward, by converting the whole corpus to XML. The plan is to complete this in the next few months and then start distribution of a third edition of the BNC.

Is the present BNC XML now available just the same as the third edition ?

I've got the free upgrade copy of BNC XML edition today. Two DVDs. For your information, it's sent to me by the Oxford University Comuting Services dated on April 12, 2007. It requires 9 GB hard disc space to install. And it took more than 30 minutes to complete the installation. So better do it when you are free.

在http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk/XMLedition/orderform1.html 中有这样一句：Purchase orders are accepted from institutions within the EU only. 好象咱们国内研究者难以买到。后面还有有一句：We can also accept cheques or money orders in US dollars or Euros, but these should include an additional GBP 10 for bank charges. 既然我都没有英镑，我到哪里弄另外10英镑呢？至于后面要多收的10镑，我是该付等值的美圆呢，还是换英镑？假如我可以换英镑，那我又干吗要付这10英镑呢？
另外，他们没有提供帐号，只是提供了一个地址。我去过n家银行（农行、工行、中行、兴业......）和西联汇款网点了（腿快断了），他们都只能提供帐号对帐号的电汇，没有提供票汇money order到对方仅仅是一个地址的，而且除中行外都只能兑换成美圆然后汇到对方帐号。不知道是国内管制太严格还是我这地方太小办不了。
办理信用卡和旅游支票应该难度更大且为了60英镑去办也不值得。看来，只好放弃了！
