Another problem with Antconc

Both with version 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 I tried to list all the content words in the LCMC(K-P) corpora but unfortunately I failed every time as the program halted when the concordance hits reach 124000 and above. Sometimes it will report low virtual memory. I am not sure whether this is an inherent defect of Antconc or something wrong with my system. Two pictures of both my system configuration and the occasion when it was in malfunction:

回复: Another problem with Antconc

AntConc is written in Perl, which does everything in memory. Your system has a physical memory of 512 MB, which is not enough for th eoperatuion. So your free disk space on your hard disk is used to convert it into virtual memory, which is slower than physical memory. Your virtual memory is used up because you do not have enough free disk space.

What kind of operation needs such a huge free disk space! I do agree more with your theory of my small physical memory, Dr. Xiao!

Re: 回复: Another problem with Antconc

I agree that the problem is probably your memory limitation. Doing anything on a Windows XP system with only 512MB of RAM will cause problems (including running Word and Excel).

Saying that, AntConc does not work well with large corpora. It was originally designed to work with small corpus of up to 10 million words.

A new version coming soon will hopefully deal with 100 million word corpora.

Not all free disk space is used as virtual memory. You can define the size of virtual memory in Advanced settings.

You can hardly run any program on Windows XP with 512 MB of memory.

Haah, Lanthony is Laurence Anthony? :D Thanks for being so helpful, and thanks for your creative work, I'm personally in favor of Antconc. I cann't wait to try on next version.
