Prof. Michael Stubbs - a hardcore corpus linguist
He has been Professor of English Linguistics at the University of Trier, Germany, since 1990. He was previously Professor of English in Education, Institute of Education, University of London (1985-90), and Lecturer in Linguistics, University of Nottingham, UK (1974-85). Other posts and offices include: Visiting Professor, University of Tübingen, Germany (1985); Chair of BAAL (British Association for Applied Linguistics, 1988-91); Honorary Senior Research Fellow, University of Birmingham, UK (1994-99). He has also lectured in Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, USA, Yemen, and several European countries, most recently Italy, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. His books include: Language, Schools and Classrooms (1976 Methuen), Language and Literacy (1980 Routledge), Discourse Analysis (1983 Blackwell), Educational Linguistics (1986 Blackwell), Text and Corpus Analysis (1996 Blackwell), and Words and Phrases (2001 Blackwell). His main current areas of writing and research are text and discourse analysis, especially computer-assisted corpus stylistics and phraseology.
