The pattern in (3) above is designed to search for all instances of contracted form containing the apostrophe (i.e. ') in a CLAWS-tagged (C7) corpus. This is a kind of "contextual search". The search string is the apostrophe, and the context is specified as follows: the span of one word to the left and two words to the right of the search string should not include the tokens that are tagged as GE (genetive mark), NP (proper noun), NN (common nouns), MC (cardinal numerals), RA (adverb after a nominal head), UH (interjections), FO (formula), and double or single quotation marks (" or ').
