Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as part of a project on computer-assisted language learning (CALL).
Successful candidates will contribute to the research project “Developing an intelligent tool for computer-assisted vocabulary learning from YouTube videos”, with Phoebe Lin as PI. The research group includes a computer programmer and a research assistant. The project aims at developing a tool for computer-assisted learning of English phraseology from internet social media and identifying patterns in tool users’ behaviour. The postdoctoral fellow will oversee the coding of the CALL tool and the user trial. S/he will also assist the PI in analysing patterns in tool users’ behaviour and preparing papers for publication.
The candidate should have a PhD in corpus or computational linguistics. Familiarity with phraseology (aka multiword units), computer-assisted language learning and/or programming languages will be an asset.
The term is for one year, with the possibility of an extension for another year. A competitive remuneration package will be offered, including gratuity upon completion of the second one-year contract.
Application materials should be emailed to Dr Phoebe Lin (phoebe.lin@polyu.edu.hk) with the subject line “Postdoc application”. Priority will be given to applications received by 16th April, 2016.
