I see. You mean search word by SW, though this is not a stand abbreviation in CL.

1) Open the corpu with the client;
2) Start Word Query
3) Type in shuo and click on Look Up

6) This is called page mode of display. You can use page up and page down keys to browse; or if you want KWIC concordances, press the page/line mode button to switch between two display modes. The following is called KWIC mode

7) You can also select plain/XML ro hide/show XML markup; or you can create your own stylesheet to show selected XML markup

8) For many more functions such as collocations, sort, thin, and distribution, see the help file.

i haven't "中国" in above column and the keyboard is blank. what do you think?

i am very puzzled. i checked very step and make sure it is the same as yours. but it is still a vain.

Your problem, I believe, lies in your operation system (Win ME), which does not include a Unicode font by default. You will need to download "Arial Unicode MS" font (about 22 M to download, free, from the web). When you installed the Unicode font, everything will be fine. Without that, you cannot even display concordances properly. Alternatively upgrade your system to windows 2000/XP. That will solve all problems. You will also be able to index your own corpora.

With the soft keyboard is blank (lack of font), you do not need to use the soft keyboard. you can use the keyword on your machine.

"Zhongguo" in my screen dump is a word I search before. It does not matter if it does not appear (probably it has not been searched in the copy you download).

Go to "View - Font" in the menu, select Arial MS Unicode or any Chinese font from the list of fonts installed on your system. You will be able to see Chinese characters. This only needs to be done once. Next time you started the Xaira Client, it has remebered your setting. When you have done this, you have started to become a Xaira expert. Cheers.

the moment i want to tell you i have known where it is by myself, you sent me the reply. anyway, thanks. are you living in UK now? is it night now? have a good dream!

i found a problem. for example, i chose one of the corpuses, LCMC A,search "zhongguo", i got 1118 records. then i did it again. this time i chose "select all", the searching result is still 1118. then i chose LCMC B or H, got the same result.
puzzled.

In these operations, you are search the whole corpus. The correct way os hsowing distribution across genres is to go to "Texts - Open partition" and open the partition file ending in .sc. Then make a concordance and clik on the pie icon on the toolbar. You will be able to compare normalised frequencies across genres.

ok, i see. i found only one file ending in .sc, i.e type.sc. do i need to define some new types?

yes, i opened partion type.sc. i was also able to compare the normalized requencies. however, it is not what i want. how to search a key word within a specific corpus, for example, LCMC A and display its context.

the following is what i found in the "help" file. i did as i am told. you bet i failed.
i opened type.sc, then activate a partition "A", then search word "zhongguo ", got 0 solution. what do you say?

"Select this option to change the active partition scheme.

The classes assigned to each text in the activated partition are shown in the Class column of the Corpus window.

You can choose to activate any currently open partition. By default, the "all" partition, which puts all the texts in the corpus into a single class called Texts, is active.

When you select this option, you will see a list of all available registered partitions, as well as all the partitions you have opened in this session. Choose the partition you wish to activate. When a partition is active, you can go on to choose a class from that partition to be used for queries and collocation calculations."
